GO Picks – November 2009

go-artichoke

I am so selfish that I bought extra jars of this item from the Redding Grocery Outlet Bargain Market for my latest GO picks – before I started writing this post.

Gertie’s Finest Artichoke Tapenade, which the Redding GO Bargain Market sells for a jaw-droppingly reasonable $3.99.

Elsewhere it’s sold for $9.99, which is completely reasonable when one considers how much it would cost to process that many artichokes to yield more than 2 pounds of – as ArtHoppian friend Adam would say – yumminess.

It’s a big jar … like 33.5 ounces … but if you go in with a friend, or divvy up the jar into smaller containers to freeze, none will go to waste.

But with the holidays nipping at our heels, I doubt you’ll have any problem using it.

This is a fine example of how tapenade doesn’t necessarily just mean a chopped olive spread.

I’ve bought Gertie’s Finest Artichoke Tapenade With Key Lime & Spices before. I’ve used it three ways:

Stirred into hot pasta (with a little hot pasta water to thin the tapenade)

Spread over pizza dough and baked.

On top of crackers.

What else can we do with it? That’s up to you.
