Be Safe While Holiday Shopping
As the holiday shopping season arrives, the Redding Police Department reminds folks to be extra careful to avoid being victims of theft.
The most important prevention tool is to stay alert to your surroundings and the people around you. It’s easy to get caught up in your Christmas list, but inattentive shoppers shuffling in dark parking lots are just asking for it.
If possible, the RPD says, don’t carry a purse. Carry your cash and credit cards in interior pockets, separate from each other. If you must carry a handbag, keep it close to your body, not dangling on its strap from your shoulder or neck.
Don’t leave packages or valuables visible inside your car. When you approach your car, have your keys ready. Lock your purchases in the trunk.

- Speaking of Christmas shopping: Next Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a special trunk show will benefit Shasta Women’s Refuge. The show at Oxford Suites on Hilltop features jewelry, scarves and clothing from DeliaAnn’s Jewelry and June’s Silks.
- Mark Your Calendars for Dec. 2, when the YMCA in Redding celebrates its 25th anniversary with an open house. The event, which runs from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., will include tours and talks by staff, Zumba demonstrations with live drummers and performances by ”Y” kids.

Funny, the first thing I thought of was how completely awful the traffic is around the last few weeks of the shopping season. On the top 10 list of places to avoid.
