A fire was reported Friday afternoon near the site of the devastating Fountain Fire of 1992 but was quickly corralled by volunteer firefighters, an on-the-spot reader tells us.

Friday’s “Buzzard Incident” occurred at the Cedar Creek Falls on 299 East.

Montgomery Creek Volunteer Fire Company’s Water Tender 71 and two CalFire engines responded with a battalion chief. First on the scene was volunteer Larry Russell.

Found near the fire was a lighter and cigarette butts, reader LC Russell reports. She said the fire burned to the creek and was about half an acre.

The Fountain Fire of ‘92, one of the worst in California’s history, destroyed some 300 homes and 64,000 acres of forested land.

Notes and photos contributed by LC Russell.
