Corner Booth: ArtHop Teams with ANewsCafe
Troy Hawkins (with daughter Corina), Adam Mankoski and Kelly Brewer (in red) announce the new partnership between HawkMan Studios and Food for Thought: A News Cafe.
Dozens of artists and businesspeople packed into a meeting room at Vintage Wine Bar & Restaurant on Tuesday night to learn about a new direction for the arts in Northern California.
HawkMan Studios’ Troy Hawkins and Adam Mankoski, who have turned Second Saturday ArtHop into Redding’s most-anticipated monthly event, are partnering with us here at A News Cafe to produce a new arts and entertainment section that will be unveiled this weekend.
The section, called Day and Night, will package the latest information about arts and music events, nightlife, movies and dining, along with cartoons by our own Phil Fountain and articles by Jim Dyar. And it will become the place to go for news about ArtHop, including (starting in August) interactive maps that show which businesses host artists each month.
Once the new section is up and running, A News Cafe readers will be able to go to the ArtHop section and click on links to artists’ websites, sponsoring businesses and event information. The Google maps can be customized, so you can print out a map of just the events you want to attend.
Enjoy magazine, which has carried the maps in the past, will remain involved with ArtHop, sponsoring the Kickoff Events and Art Attacks and running articles about featured artists. To show their appreciation for the magazine’s year-long involvement, Troy and Adam presented Enjoy managing editor Ronda Ball with a beautiful pastel painting at Tuesday’s event.
A highlight of the evening was a dynamic short video by Alan Phillips that showed Adam, Troy, Doni and Kelly introducing the new Day and Night section. Thanks, Alan!

I think this is a wonderful partnership - anything that can be done to publicize ArtHop is all good. Just found out my talented, charming (yet not smarmy…) brother-in-law, John Stewart, has a self-portrait included at The Vintage Wine Bar, so I have a special interest in this. Looking forward to this new section of A News Cafe!
