Candidate McArthur asks equal radio time: UPDATE
Redding City Council candidate Missy McArthur has asked KQMS AM-1400 radio station for equal time on behalf of seven of the eight candidates in the race.
Her letter:
Dear Sir/Madam,
It is my understanding that according to FCC requirements, I am entitled to candidate radio time on KQMS in Redding, in response to the hours used by [candidate] Ken Murray of the Ken Murray in the Morning show.
I request and suggest that these hours be scheduled as follows: The remaining seven candidates could use Ken Murray’s former time slot two times each month, a month apart for the two months until the election on November 4th, 2008. KQMS could advertise the schedule of who is on when, it could be call-in or not, depending on the candidate’s preference. KQMS would get a lot of listeners, billing it as “Democracy on the Airwaves.” This seems fair and doesn’t penalize KQMS too much, since the station would simply be replacing Mr. Murray with other people. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Missy McArthur, candidate for Redding City Council
No word yet on radio station manager Randie Meyer’s answer.
UPDATE: Meyer has told McArthur each candidate will receive 3.1 hours of air time between now and the end of October.

What should I do with mine? I can make funny armpit noises… that could take up an hour or two. They’re pretty good…not as good as Murray’s, but I’m not a professional.
